The Strovolos Photographic Club was founded in September 2002, on the initiative of Mr. Takis Demetriades AFIAP – ESFIAP, and with the support of the then Mayor of Strovolos Savvas Eliofotou and of the Municipal Council.

Maintained by the Municipality, the Strovolos Photographic Club is housed in its own premises, next to the Old Town Hall of Strovolos, at Archiepiskopou Kyprianou Avenue. It is equipped with a lecture room, a studio, a darkroom, and modern equipment.

Key objectives of the Club are:

• to promote artistic and general photography,

• to teach the art of photography through courses delivered by qualified instructor Mr. Chris Tsekouras,

• to organize lectures and provide practical training,

• to organize educational excursions,

• to promote awareness and familiarity with new media and technology in the field of photography,

• to organize and participate in exhibitions and other cultural activities,

• to provide a platform for acquaintance with prominent artistic photographers.

In the last ten years, the Club has won five gold medals at international competitions, has been designated as a Local Individual Member of FIAP, a highly prestigious distinction, and has received recognition at an international level. Members have participated in international competitions receiving awards and accolades, while others have garnered the title of artistic photographer of the International Federation of Artistic Photography (FIAP).

The Strovolos Photographic Club is growing constantly and currently has approximately 200 members.


MARIOS KAZAMIAS holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California. While in California, he worked at two of the largest and most prestigious firms in the Los Angeles area, DMJM and Anshen, and Allen and Keating/Khang, gaining significant experience in a wide range of projects. Since his return to Cyprus in 2002, Marios has been involved in various projects, carrying through all stages of design and construction administration. In 2009 Marios set up his own Architecture Practice in Nicosia. He has been involved with Photography, as an amateur, for many years. He has been a member of the Strovolos Photographic Club since 2010, and has served on its Board of Directors since 2011.

JEAN MASSRY was born in 1965. He studied Computer Sciences. He has been an amateur Photographer since 2007.

MARIA MENOIKOU was born in Nicosia, in 1974. She graduated from Acropolis Lyceum, and studied Travel and Tourism, as well as Accounting. She currently works at the Cooperative Bank of Civil Servants. She has been a member of the Strovolos Photographic Club since 2004.

ANTIGONE MILIKOURI is a member of the Cyprus Photographic Society, and has served as Secretary of the Club since 2009. She has attended classes/lectures in photography given by Professor of Photography, Takis Demetriades. At the 2009 Berega Competition in Russia she was awarded an honor from the FIAP. In 2010 she received the title AFIAP (Artist FIAP), from the International Federation of Art Photography.

STELIOS PETRIS studied Fine Arts and Photography at the American College in London. He works as a freelance photographer, focusing on portraits, landscapes and art photography. He experiments with color and composition, always aiming to combine the unusual with the striking.

MICHALIS PETTEMERIDIS has worked in photography for the last eight years. Since 2005 he has been a member of the Cyprus Photographic Society and of the Strovolos Photographic Club. He has attended a series of courses-lectures on art of photography given by Professor of Photography Takis Demetriades. In 2007 he held his first individual exhibition, entitled “The Microcosm of Nature”. He has participated in several photography competitions in Cyprus, where his work received distinctions, prizes and other honors. In 2010, the International Society of Art Photography (FIAP) awarded him the title of AFIAP.

ALEXANDRA PHYLAKTOU was born in Limassol. She graduated from the Arsakeios Pedagogical Academy in Athens, and worked at the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation as a Program Coordinator. She is a member of the Strovolos Photographic Club.

LIA PLATRITOU was born in Alexandria, Egypt. She worked at the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation as a Vision Mixer. She first engaged with photography in 1974, after the Turkish invasion, in an attempt to bear witness to the misfortune of her country. She has participated in several competitions in Cyprus and abroad. She has been a member of the Strovolos Photographic Club for the past eight years.

VOULA SAVVIDOU studied Optometry and Graphic Arts. She works as a graphic designer at an advertising agency in Nicosia. She has been a member of the Strovolos Photographic Club since 2005, and a member of the Cyprus Photographic Society since 2007. She has participated in local and international competitions, winning awards and distinctions. In 2011, she was awarded the title of AFIAP (Artist Photographer) by the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) and, one year later, the distinction of Excellence photographer of FIAP.
